The other day I needed a silk conversion. There’s a chart I want to stitch but don’t want to use the silk thread the designer recommended. I contacted one shop that I thought did conversions but they said they don’t do “custom” conversions. I remembered watching a video with Nicola Parkman where she interviwed Cathe Ray of Needle in a Haystack. Cathe Ray could probably talk for days about thread/floss. She knows so much about hundreds (maybe thousands) of types of thread/floss, many of which I’ve never heard of. She knows so very much! I would love to be able to just call her every time a question pops into my head. So interesting to watch that video. I’ve watched it three times already.
But . . as I was trying to decide if I wanted to use DMC or try to get a silk conversion from 100/3 to Soie d’Alger, I thought about Cathe’s video, went back to find out the name of her shop and sent her an email. Within minutes, she wrote me back and the next day, I had all the Soie d’Alger on its way to me.
There was a “thank you” email explaining how hard it has been to stay in business and how much they appreciate our business so . . if there’s something you need and can’t find or don’t have a favorite shop, Needle in a Haystack seems to be a very, very nice shop with most helpful folks.
