Rose Colored Glasses

Vince often tells me that I see the world through rose colored glasses. I tell him that I don’t dwell on things I cannot change. Watching news 24/7 is depressing. I used to think that there were some news things/current events I need to know but, for the most part, I no longer care to know any of it. If there’s a tornado watch/warning for my part of town, I need to know that. If there’s going to be a blizzard on Friday (there’s not . . at least not that I know of) happening on Friday, I might need to know that so I can go to the grocery store but probably not because it’s a habit to run to the grocery store before a blizzard. I don’t need anything! I’ve read several commenting on the price of gasoline. Yes, it has gone up. I don’t use much gas, I can’t change the price. I’m not going to go fill up when I need 3 gallons because the price may go up 10 cents per gallon tomorrow.

Most every morning I vacuum the family room first thing, especially with Boots in the house. Yesterday I never touched the cross stitching or the knitting. This morning, after I vacuumed, I had my breakfast and when I walked back into the family room . . I thought . . the house is clean, I’m going to sit and cross stitch for a while.

As I started stitching, I laughed out loud. My house is NOT clean. I have a bit of a mess on the dining room table with the patterns that are waiting for floss that should arrive tomorrow and then I can put them into the “kits” drawer. Our bedroom gets clean and within five minutes, I’ve unpacked a box or started organizing something else and it’s a mess in there. The downstairs family room is getting better but it’s still a huge mess with boxes that we unpacked while looking for different things. I’m trying to spend at least an hour working on the downstairs family room so it will be nice when Vince does get here.

The ONLY thing clean is the living room carpet but in my mind, freshly vacuumed carpet makes the whole house seem cleaner.

Having carpet vacuumed and therefore, believing my house is clean enough that I can sit and stitch at least all morning . . that should be the classic description of someone wearing rose colored glasses. Vince is right . . again!

Clean enough is good enough. Whatever you think is all that matters on this subject.

If I clean the house, it just gets messy again. If I cross stitch, it stays stitched. Cross Stitch Wins!

That is a great way to look at it. I think I’ll adopt that as my new mantra! Not a lot, but a little . . it bothers me when people come in and the house is a mess. The lady who lived here before . . you could eat off their floors. She works and I have no idea how she keeps that house so clean, but she does. They’re here often and I can’t imagine what it must be like to see your home of so many years looking like mine sometimes looks. But, in my defense, she doesn’t knit or crochet or sew and I’m not sure she ever cooks. But still, I hate it when they come by and I’m looking at the folded clothes in the chair, the stack of empty plastic mailers on the dining table.

Partly because of COVID precautions, I am currently without a housecleaning service. I try to keep it clean and I think I do a reasonably good job. Often, though (as stated above), “clean enough” is good enough for me to read, sew, cross-stitch, watch TV, or any of a number of other things I’d rather be doing!

I have always said if my floors were clean I am good to go. I clean on Monday and again if the great-granddaughter is coming over.. If you get here by noon you will see the floors clean. That afternoon the Dennis the Menace I live with has brought in some of the back yard. I have learned to let go of so much. There will be another Monday morning for clean floors. I am thankful to have a house to clean.

I’ll admit I’m not a slave to cleaning. Good enough is good enough. If it bothers me I will clean it.

I’m with you Judy–I can’t change the political scene, the only thing I can do is vote. I don’t watch news on TV and I don’t stress about it–I can’t change it! I don’t keep my house nearly as clean as I did when I worked fulltime! In retirement it just doesn’t seem that important to me! Now my sister–she works full time, is married to a minister so the church is another full time job for her and she takes care of my Mom–you could eat off my sister’s floors–not sure when she finds the time to do it!

You are being a realist. Watching the news is depressing. I know some people who watch it 24/7. That is way too much. They are paranoid about everything. I just take life as it comes. There is nothing I can do about what others do and I am not going to worry about them. I do worry about COVID and I try to keep up on that in our county. I do feel bad for all those who have lost families. I try to wear my mask and distance from others. I worry about Pat and his health. And I try to start each day with a smile and good attitude. Maybe I am wearing those rose colored glasses also.

If the living room is clean, the house is clean. LOL I usually make sure there are no dishes in the sink and the bathroom is okay for a guest, but after that, I don’t care a lot, and my house is about half or less the size of yours. I see nothing wrong with Rose colored glasses. We are happier people.

As I’ve grown older, I am with you all the way! You just described my existence now. I cannot do the news (haven’t been able to got years!). I don’t run out to fill up on gas due to fluctuations. Thankfully I rarely need to go anywhere! I have decided that as king as mr and my spouse are content it’s all good. ??

It’s ok. You should see how things look when I use the phone.
